The transactions include the additions of two players ranked among the world’s top 50.
The Baltimore Orioles announced the signing of 19 foreign prospects following the start of the 2024 signing period.
The Orioles, who are coming off a 101-win season in MLB and have recently built their new Dominican Republic Baseball Academy, have $7.114 million to spend worldwide. If the Orioles have money leftover from their initial signings, it must be spent before December 15.
The Orioles reached an agreement with two Top 30 prospects at the start of the season on Monday.
MLB Pipeline ranked outfielder Stiven Martinez as the No. 28 prospect, and shortstop Emilio Sanchez as the No. 30 prospect. Both come from the Dominican Republic.
Sanchez agreed to a reported $1.3 million incentive, while Martinez signed for $950,000.
The class is mainly dominated by Dominican talent, with the remaining additions coming from Venezuela. The lineup features two catchers, five shortstops, two third basemen, six outfielders, and four pitchers.
Last January, the Orioles’ most major foreign acquisition was shortstop Luis Almeyda, who received a $2.3 million bonus from the team. That was the largest bonus in club history.
Last summer, he played in the Dominican Summer League.190 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. He’s been assigned to the Orioles’ Florida Complex League squad. He is the Orioles’ number 25 prospect.
