Kendrick Bourne’s three-year stint with the New England Patriots was everything but smooth.
But may Bourne, who is scheduled to face the open market in March, return to New England in the hopes of regaining his top spot? The Patriots are allegedly intrigued.
Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reported on Tuesday that the Patriots had spoken with the 28-year-old wide receiver.
“The team has already been in contact with Kendrick Bourne, I can tell you that,” Callahan stated during his “Pats Interference” podcast, which was released Tuesday.
Callahan acknowledged that he didn’t know if Bourne would stay with the group. Bourne signed a three-year, $15 million contract amid New England’s 2021 summer spending binge.
Bourne was productive when he played and when he was incorporated into the Patriots’ offense. After achieving career highs in catches (55) and yards (800) in Josh McDaniels’ scheme in 2021, he caught 37 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns with Bill O’Brien’s offense in 2023 (eight games). However, Bourne was taken out of Matt Patricia’s offense in 2022, as seen by his 35 catches in 16 games (two starts).
Bourne seemed like a player eager to return to New England, but that was before the franchise parted ties with head coach Bill Belichick. After Belichick left the Patriots, Bourne expressed interest in joining up with the eventual Hall of Famer.
