Matt Eberflus’ thoughts on Chicago Bears QB situation revealed…
Following the transaction, reports regarding the process that led the Bears to acquire offensive coordinator Shane Waldron have surfaced. On Tuesday, the Chicago Bears formally announced the employment of Waldron.
The subject of Justin Fields or Caleb Williams naturally came up during the Bears’ discussions with prospective offensive coordinators, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
Of course, the quote from Breer that is garnering attention is hers. “Eberflus defends Justin Fields,” the argument is concluded, and the Bears now have a quarterback.
Matt Eberflus’ defense of Justin Fields likely has no impact on the Chicago Bears’ quarterback decision.
The Bears currently start Fields at quarterback. The Bears have not yet decided whether to hold onto Fields or draft Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Eberflus would therefore be justified in defending Fields during interviews with prospective offensive coordinators.
It’s critical that the head coach and quarterback have a positive relationship, even if the Bears’ defense of Fields just serves to maintain their advantage in trade negotiations involving the quarterback they already have or the first overall pick. It was inevitable that information about the Bears’ interview process would surface, and it is fortunate for the franchise that no internal criticism of Fields surfaced.
Bears supporters should familiarize themselves with the principle of Occam’s razor between now and the 2024 draft, which states that the simpler answer is frequently the best one. During his first three NFL seasons, Fields has not reached his full potential. If the Bears want to contend in the NFC North going ahead, their quarterback play has to improve. In order to solve the quarterback situation, the simplest approach is to choose Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Terrell Williams is an excellent defensive coordinator choice for the Chicago Bears for these three reasons…
Terrell Williams, the defensive line coach and assistant head coach of the Tennessee Titans, was interviewed by the Chicago Bears to be their defensive coordinator. Despite the fact that he lacks defensive coordinator experience, he seems like the ideal choice in many respects.
The Chicago Bears should hire Terrell Williams as defensive coordinator.
First off, the coordinator hire’s inexperience calling plays won’t affect his role because he is unlikely to do so. Being the assistant head coach will play a part in his function. While Matt Eberflus excels at calling plays, he falls short in many areas of game-day leadership that distinguish excellent head coaches.
Williams could serve as his defensive coordinator in addition to taking on a large portion of the assistant head coach duties, giving Eberflus more time to call plays and increasing his chances of success on game day.
Williams was a defensive lineman everywhere he went, if you look at his resume. He was present for some of the greatest seasons of Cliff Avril, Ryan Kerrigan, Mike Neal, and Anthony Spencer at Purdue. These are a few of Purdue’s finest rushers from the previous season.
He assisted Von Miller in becoming a star at Texas A&M. He has moved about in the NFL, but he has always worked with excellent lineman. He got the best performance out of Jeffery Simmons, Harold Landry, Denico Autry, DaQuan Jones, Teair Tart, Arden Key, and even DeMarcus Walker, who is now with the Chicago Bears, while he was with the Tennessee Titans.
The defensive line of the Chicago Bears is still an area that requires improvement. Walker could use some assistance, and Matt Eberflus could need some talent added to this group. He clearly likes what he did with the Titans defensive line.
Terrell Williams is a good fit for the Bears; he meets the bill and has the experience as an assistant coach. Making this hire would be wise.
