BREAKINS NEWS;’ Liam Scales ready for Celtic left back stint as star player reveals top secret……
The defender has transformed from a supporting role to a key one, and following Greg Taylor’s injury, he may have a new assignment this weekend.
With Greg Taylor down for a few weeks, Liam Scales is unlikely to blink an eye if asked to fill in at left back for Celtic.
As long as the Irishman isn’t asked to play on the wing by Brendan Rodgers. Scales has improved this season from being a minor player to being among the first names on the team sheet, and he might play another role against Ross County today. The 25-year-old, who has experience playing full back, can switch to that position with ease.
Furthermore, Scales disclosed that he had experience on the field in other roles. As a young winger, he looked up to Irish legend Damien Duff. “I wasn’t always a center half,” the former Aberdeen loan star said. I used to play higher up the pitch as a winger or center midfielder. I wasn’t a horrible winger until I shot up at the age of twelve or so! I slowed down as I became lanky and lost my pace.
Damien Duff was a left footer on the wing, so I used to watch him when I was little. I was more of a beat-a-man and get the ball across kind of guy.
However, I had to adjust after taking that stretch. I finally moved to center mid and then back. In the senior game, though, I’ve mostly played left back or center back. I’m content right now. I doubt I would still be at Celtic if I were a winger.
Rodgers is usually eager for his center backs to into the midfield, so even though Scales may not feel entirely at ease on the wing, he has demonstrated that he is more than at ease with the ball. “It depends on who we play against,” the defender stated. The center backs have a lot of the ball when teams sit off, so if I can get into the game, I could start a press and open up some space for a midfielder.
“Yes, I am authorized to do that. Of course, I like to protect my box, but I also like to be in the attacking zone. You are frequently high in their half at Celtic, and that’s a skill I’ve worked on.
Scales is happy with his current situation and isn’t becoming agitated over the ongoing negotiations for a new deal. “The word I’d use is settled,” he declared. The last time, I didn’t know what to expect, but this time, everything went smoothly, and I’m glad to be here. My attention is on my football.
“I definitely feel like I’m getting better now. I’ve played probably close to thirty games this season, but it took a few months for it to feel that way. It has been reliable, but you shouldn’t become too accustomed to it because football is an unpredictable game.
“In terms of the contract, there hasn’t been any update; nevertheless, my agent will be notified of any updates. All I think about is the football. I’m at ease. I’ve moved that information to the back of my mind since I’ve been at previous places where it has impacted my performance.
“I view it that way: if it happens, it happens.”
Scales is more concerned about Celtic returning to Premiership action with a bang today. The defender believes the Hoops have finally put their turbulent run from before Christmas behind them after last week’s Scottish Cup romp against Buckie Thistle was the ideal way to shake off the cobwebs from the holiday break.
Scales acknowledged that for a while there, the Parkhead men didn’t look like themselves; points were leaked against Kilmarnock and Hearts. Though the play was slow, there was a sense that more was to come as the Celts showed a flare and prevailed in the Old Firm Christmas clash.
“It was just getting back into the swing of things,” Scales remarked. It was a solid, professional performance, and we were able to win the game.
You could see that we adhered to our values by the goals we scored. We are excited to return to the league after a successful training week.
“I believe we neglected it for a few weeks, which led to a few subpar outcomes. However, things have gone pretty well since we realized we needed to regain our game’s speed.
“I believe we strayed from our plan for a little while, but we made up for it, and things have moved much more quickly since then. The purpose of the break was to recharge, and ever since we returned, things have been excellent. We had a short season to regain our rhythm.
