As if one injured defenseman wasn’t awful enough, another one is hurt in the first game of the Boston Bruins’ four-game road trip to Western Canada on Wednesday night (Feb. 21).
This is according to the most recent issue of Boston Bruins News & Rumours. On Wednesday, February 22, the Black and Gold’s defence will face a possible trade target, and Boston play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards shares details on his health.
As if one injured defender wasn’t bad enough, the Boston Bruins suffer yet another injury on Wednesday night (Feb. 21) in the opening game of their four-game road trip to Western Canada.
The most current edition of Boston Bruins News & Rumours claims this.
Boston play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards provides information on the potential trade target that the Black and Gold’s defence may encounter on Wednesday, February 22.
Grzelcyk required assistance going off the ice, so it was not unexpected when the Bruins announced in the second period that he would not be playing again due to a lower-body injury.
Coach Jim Montgomery stated after the game that his left-shot blue liner is only expected to play on a day-to-day basis (from Boston Herald, “Bruins win wild one in Edmonton, 6-5, in overtime,” February 22, 2024).
This occurs a little more than 48 hours after Dallas Stars forward Hampus Lindholm was injured during the third period of the team’s 4-3 shootout triumph.
Mason Lohrei was brought up from the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins to take Lindholm’s position (AHL). In the 6-5 overtime victory over the Oilers, he played more than 23 minutes and contributed three assists.
Bruins Could Be in Calgary for a Trade Target
The Calgary Flames are the subject of a lot of trade talk, particularly after they sent centre Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks on February 1.
Before the March 8 trade deadline, more players may be transferred, and Boston general manager (GM) Don Sweeney is reportedly interested in one of them.
You have to believe that Sweeney is a serious trade target.
It’s no secret that the Bruins suffer defensively on the left side, a problem made worse by the injury to Grzelcyk and Hampus Lindholm. Derek Forbort has also been struggling recently and is often the man on the ice for goals.
Boston will have another chance to see Flames forward Noah Hanifin, and it’s likely that Sweeney will spend more time getting to know the former Boston College defenseman who will be a free agency at the end of the year.
Does Sweeney own the draft money, prospects, or a roster player that Calgary would be willing to consider acquiring?
Jack Edwards Discusses His Health in Detail
This season, everyone who has watched Bruins games on NESN has seen a different Jack Edwards.
The 66-year-old has a unique voice; at times, he seems to slur his words and lose his train of thought when calling plays by play.
Although the frequently contentious Edwards has continued to stray from the subject, he has disclosed details about his health to Boston Globe reporter Chad Finn and claims to be in good condition.
Two factors, in my opinion, work against me,” Edwards stated. “The game is always becoming faster. Additionally,
I’m always slowing down. (from Boston Globe, February 22, 2024) “NESN’s Jack Edwards speaks up about his speech issues: “I’m slowing down all the time.”
Edwards went on, “I did not have any kind of accident.” “I’m not a cancer patient. My dementia is not present. I am not a stroke victim. Mass has verified all of it.
Neurology in general. They’ve administered tests that, while they may seem to resemble a scenario from science fiction, are actually quite accurate. Nothing at all can be seen in the pictures of my brain.
My joke with them is that.
This season, Edwards—who took a shot at Pat Maroon of the Tampa Bay Lightning during a broadcast in November 2022—hasn’t always gone on the road; instead, NESN has had Alex Faust cover for him.
Edwards did not specify when he will retire, even though he is aware that the time is drawing near.
Edwards stated, “I love my job, but I know that retirement isn’t that far off.” “Next month marks my 67th birthday. When the time comes, I want to go with grace.
When it comes to Edwards, Bruins supporters are either infatuated with him or detest him. There is no middle ground.
When the time comes, it is hoped that NESN would choose Faust to succeed Edwards because he has done a fantastic job stepping in for the latter.
Bruins Travelling Continues
Following their game against the Flames, the Bruins will play their third game of a four-game road trip on Saturday night (February 24) in Vancouver before concluding on Monday night (February 25) against the Seattle Kraken.
The Bruins just played a seven-game homestand, winning over the Canucks but losing to the Flames and Kraken.
Boston will meet former coach Bruce Cassidy and the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights at the TD Garden on February 29, following their trip to Seattle.
