Under new general manager Omar Khan, the Steelers were active in the 2023 NFL Draft, moving up to choose Broderick Jones as their next franchise left tackle.
Is Pittsburgh going to target one of the best playmakers in the class in 2024 and follow suit?
The Steelers were among the clubs who spoke with Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, and he believes it’s something that shouldn’t be disregarded.
“The reason why those are interesting is those would be potential trade up teams,” added Rapoport. “A significant move up for a receiver happens infrequently, but occasionally. That is obviously something to be aware of.”

In the event that Pittsburgh decides to move up, it will undoubtedly be expensive. The squad has the 20th pick right now, and Odunze is expected to go considerably higher.
On Pro Football Focus’ big board, Odunze is ranked as the eighth overall and third-best wide receiver prospect. In 2022–2023 he caught 167 passes for 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns. For the Steelers to get him, a trade into the top 10 would probably be necessary.
With George Pickens and Diontae Johnson as their current wide receivers, why would Pittsburgh be interested in Odunze?
Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda claims that the Steelers are willing to trade Johnson for the appropriate amount.
“While it’s not fair to say Johnson is on the trading block, several people tell me the Steelers are open to moving the receiver if they receive fair compensation,” wrote Pauline.
Pittsburgh will need to locate a different wide receiver to complement Pickens if it decides to let go of Johnson. Odunze could have the solution. Only, of course, if the Steelers are willing to pay the price.
