Due to an elbow injury, New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole’s prognosis is uncertain at best. According to a recent source, the organization has reportedly resumed trade discussions to acquire Dylan Cease, an ace for the Chicago White Sox.
The terrifying news that reigning American League Cy Young Gerrit Cole was scheduled to have an MRI due to a growing problem in his throwing elbow broke to Yankees country on Monday. Many fans are expecting the worse because the announcement came out of the blue. The news that he will have more testing before a decision was made on his future did not improve the situation.
The organization’s high expectations of returning to the World Series if Cole is unable to pitch in 2024 will probably vanish if they are without the greatest pitcher in the AL in their rotation. According to the article, the front administration may decide to gamble on disgraced former Los Angeles Dodgers ace Trevor Bauer or resume negotiations with free agency All-Star Blake Snell.
It appears that the group has in fact resumed earlier talks. It’s not for Snell, though. “The Yankees, while awaiting news on Gerrit Cole, have re-engaged with the Chicago White Sox and made a new proposal for ace Dylan Cease,” according to USA Today MLB source Bob Nightengale’s report on Tuesday.
For lovers of New York, that is enormous news. Despite not being as good as Cole, Cease is a previous Cy Young runner-up with the potential to be a true ace for a Yankees team that will have a devastating attack in 2024.
During the winter, talks took place between the two teams, but the New York Yankees were unwilling to pay the asking price, as was the case with every other club that spoke with Chicago. As previously stated this year, Nightengale also mentioned that top prospect Spencer Jones is not included in the White Sox’s new offer.
