Prospective Blue Devil This week is going quite well for Isaiah Evans. Following his victory over Wilmington’s New Hanover in Friday’s Mr. Basketball competition, Evans guided North Mecklenburg to the state title on Saturday, defeating the latter team 57-47.
And notice what he stated afterward: “To me, this means everything.” I don’t really see the point in winning pointless games and attending a private school halfway around the world. It is satisfying to do this. For this, we devoted actual hours, time, sweat, and blood. We didn’t just wake up one day and decide we wanted to accomplish this. We declared ahead of time what we wanted to accomplish and what we were going to finish.
His sense of loyalty is something to behold. Duane Lewis, his coach, most definitely does:
“I can get as attached to him as I can to anybody else.” Everyone is aware that he might have gone anyplace. He desired to remain here, nevertheless. He is a part of them, he knows the history here, and he knows the former players. Coaching him has been a pleasure. Is there going to be another one? I’m not sure.
Evans had offers from numerous universities due to his talent, but it seems that his demeanor may be what sets him apart.
