Cornerback Cam Sutton of the Detroit Lions speaks with media following training camp at Allen Park
After a warrant was issued for cornerback Cam Sutton’s arrest, the Detroit Lions have decided what to do with him going forward.
Sutton was released, as the Lions declared on Thursday. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida made the decision the day after asking the public for assistance in finding Sutton, who is wanted on a domestic violence charge.

Sutton, 29, is being charged with domestic violence by strangulation. After Sutton was charged with assaulting a woman and fleeing the scene, a warrant was issued on March 7. He hasn’t been found by police since. The Lions decided that his release was appropriate because they were obviously concerned enough about the charges.
In the previous offseason, Sutton inked a $33 million, three-year contract with the Lions. He started all 17 of the team’s regular-season games and all three of the playoff contests. Sutton’s sole season with the team will end with 60 total tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble.
