David Bakhtiari, a former Packers linebacker, intends to play.
Former Packers linebacker David Bakhtiari still intends to participate in the upcoming campaign, according to Ian Rapoport.
He continues Bakhtiari is recovering and concentrating on preparing for his upcoming chance. The Packers cut him earlier in the summer.
Bakhtiari was formerly regarded as one of the top tackles in football, but knee surgery difficulties have ended his career. In the last three seasons, he has only started 13 games.
Bakhtiari has the ability to play at a high level when he’s on the field, so it’s conceivable that a team will take a chance on him later this summer.
The 32-year-old Bakhtiari was a 2013 fourth-round selection of the Packers. He committed to a four-year extension worth up to $105.5 million while he was in the final year of a five-year, $53.34 million contract that included $16 million in guaranteed money and a basic salary of $10 million for the 2020 season.
A $30 million signing bonus was part of the agreement, and in the first few years of the contract, there would be further roster bonuses of over $30 million. He recovered from an ACL tear he sustained late in the 2020 campaign.
When the Packers dismissed him in the last year of his contract (2024), he was supposed to receive a basic salary of $10.7 million.
Bakhtiari played in just one game with the Packers in 2023 before having more knee problems ended his season.
