Former Alabama running back declares his football retirement……………..
Damien Harris, a former running back for Alabama, announced his retirement on social media on Monday, calling it a career.
The New England Patriots selected Harris in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and he went on to play five seasons in the league. Over his career, Harris played in 44 games, logging 42 receptions for 297 yards and 472 carries for 2,188 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns.
In his statement, Harris stated, “Playing football has been one of the greatest privileges of my life for the past 20 years.”
“Just a small portion of what God has done in my life with the game of football includes getting to represent the name on the back of my jersey on and off the field, competing at the highest level with and against the best competitors while winning championships, and being coached by the two greatest head coaches of all time, Nick Saban and Bill Belichick.
The things that matter the most to me are the people I’ve met, the places I’ve gone and will continue to go, the experiences and memories I’ve created, and the influence I’ve been able to make so far.
“The quality of being thankful; readiness to express appreciation and repay kindness” is the definition of gratitude. I’m thankful today because I had the courage to stop playing the game I adore so much.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has shared in this trip and will do so in the future. From Foxborough, Massachusetts, to Buffalo, New York; from Brassfield, Kentucky, to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
“Everyone who has poured into me, including my teammates, coaches, fans, doctors, trainers, dieticians, physical therapists, teachers, and academic advisors. I’m grateful.
“I would like to express my gratitude to my personal group of advisers, relationships, management, life coaches, and all those who have enabled me to concentrate solely on becoming the greatest football player I possibly can be.
“I appreciate my agent Tory Dandy’s advocacy and guidance. I appreciate CAA’s excellent representation of me at all times.
Above all, I want to express my gratitude to my amazing wife. I could never have been as strong as I am now without your love, warmth, grace, and support. Without you, I would not be the husband, parent, or guy that I am today! With our handsome baby son, we are prepared to face all that life has to offer on the solid foundation we have built.
Finally, this proves that you can be anything you want to be, Dame II’s son. You are capable of achieving all of your goals, and most importantly, you will develop the strength to make independent decisions in a noisy world. Always make your own decisions.
Always make your own decisions. Be loyal to who you are at all times. You can always count on DaDa to be there for you!
“Do not be alarmed; I will see you soon!”
Prior to his time in the NFL, Harris was a member of the Crimson Tide from 2015 to 2018, during which he ran for 3,070 yards and 75 touchdowns in 54 games. He was also a member of two national championship teams in 2015 and 2017, and in 2018 he was selected to the All-SEC Second Team.
