When the club learned of the arrest warrant, Cameron Sutton was at the Lions’ facility.
Another bizarre information regarding the case has surfaced. Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton is wanted by police after an arrest warrant was issued.
It was revealed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida that Sutton is wanted on a domestic battery by strangulation charge. The public was urged to assist police in finding the 29-year-old. It was subsequently disclosed that Sutton has not been found by authorities since the warrant was issued on March 7.
When police released a statement regarding the warrant last Wednesday, Sutton was working out at the team’s facilities, according to Lions president Rod Wood, who spoke with Dan Miller of Fox 2 Detroit on Monday. According to Wood, Sutton was told by Lions members to turn himself in and seek legal representation, but he departed the facility and the team never heard from him again.
“We discovered the warrant at the same moment as the rest of the world on social media. Since Cam was physically there in our building, we were able to communicate with him,” Wood added. “We located him, using our strength staff to bring him down.” He sort of just showed up for the workout. Not me, but other staff members were able to speak with him. No one has spoken to him since he left the building and was freed the following day.
The next day, Sutton was released by the Lions.
That is a fascinating turn to the narrative.
On March 7, according to police, they were called to a home in Lutz, Florida, where Sutton was allegedly accused of abusing a lady before fleeing the scene. Sutton owns a house in the neighboring county of Pinellas, but neither the police nor the investigators were able to locate him there. It appears that Sutton visited Detroit after the warrant was issued.
The Lions and Sutton agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract during the previous offseason. He started all 17 of the team’s regular-season games and all three of the playoff contests. Sutton’s sole season with the team will end with 65 total tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble.
