During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, NFL Network NFL Draft expert Daniel Jeremiah emphasized that the springtime hoopla around Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is real.
Jeremiah said, “I’m talking to people who are in the quarterback market and not in the quarterback market, and J.J. McCarthy is really highly thought of, so I don’t think that’s a smokescreen situation,” as reported by Doric Sam of Bleacher Report. “I think that’s legitimate, and there’s too many teams, there’s too much demand.”
According to On3’s Nikki Chavanelle, Jeremiah expounded on his admiration for McCarthy in a recent interview with Fox Sports’ chief college football commentator Joel Klatt.
“People can’t wrap their mind around the fact that J.J. McCarthy could be going fourth or even in the top 10, and I’m telling them, ‘Trust me, I talk to these teams all the time, I know what these coaches and general managers think of this guy,'” To Klatt, Jeremiah said. “The more you watch him, he’s an acquired taste, but you appreciate some of the things he does, especially when you get into [third and 7+ situations] when you watch that cut-up.”
The Minnesota Vikings might jump from No. 11 to No. 4 in a mock draft to keep McCarthy from being selected by the New York Giants at No. 6. In an article that was released on Wednesday morning, Miller predicted that with USC quarterback Caleb Williams, Daniels, and Maye off the board, the Denver Broncos will receive the fourth pick in order to select McCarthy.
In the meantime, respected ESPN NFL expert Dan Orlovsky keeps stating that Daniels, not Williams, is this draft class’s top overall quarterback.
To put it briefly, Peters and the other Commanders have a difficult choice to make because almost everyone believes Williams will be selected first overall by the Chicago Bears in the draft.
