Eli Ricks, a cornerback for the Alabama football team, was detained on Sunday in Mississippi on suspicion of speeding, driving without insurance, and possessing marijuana—his first offense.
According to the department’s arrest database, he was taken into custody by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department at 5:14 p.m.
On Monday morning, Ricks was still being held in the county jail. Because pre-set bonds are not available in Jones County, he does not have one set. He’ll need to appear in court so a judge can establish his bond. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, court is held.
This offseason, Ricks moved from LSU to Alabama, where he is anticipated to push for a starting position come autumn.

In 2020, Ricks was selected to the All-SEC second (coaches) and All-Freshman (AP) teams during his first campaign. He was named to the AP’s third team of All-America.
Due to injury, Ricks only participated in six games last season but recorded 11 tackles, two pass breakups, and one intercepted.
After the A-Day game, Nick Saban stated that Ricks, Khyree Jackson, and Kool-Aid McKinstry were the three corners vying for starting positions.
In the spring game, Ricks was a member of the second team, although Saban claimed that was more about receiving all three reps.
“The biggest thing for Eli is learning the system,” stated Saban.
