Quick (Kickoff) Reaction? Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit to Sign with Chiefs…………………………
The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to the ranks of… football in an attempt to keep playing championship football.
The Chiefs are expected to sign Welsh rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit as a result of the NFL International Player Pathway, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. According to Schultz’s claim, Rees-Zammit will also play wide receiver and running back.
According to an Associated Press report, Rees-Zammitt ran a 40-yard time of 4.43 during the University of South Florida’s pro day. This could have interesting ramifications given recent changes in the NFL, where quick returners are now even more important. Rees-Zammitt, a player for the Welsh national rugby team, more than met this requirement in his showcase.
Rees-Zammit was quite disappointed by that figure, considering that he cited DeSean Jackson as his NFL inspiration.
“Last week, I was getting some really good time,” Rees-Zammit stated in the story published by AP. “I was receiving high 4.2s and low 4.3s. So that’s the way it is. It’s just the way things go that day. However, I am confident in my ability to run that quickly. I’m not trying to justify myself in any way, but I’m content with the day and its outcome and I know what I can achieve.”
Introduced in 2016, the NFL International Player Pathway Program is available to international players who are 24 years of age or older, have not completed high school for at least 4 years, and have not played college football in the United States.
Prominent alums of the entrance program include Australian-born offensive tackle Jordan Mailata of the Philadelphia Eagles and German-born fullback Jakob Johnson of the Las Vegas Raiders.
