Faith Masonius of the Maryland women’s basketball team joins the transfer portal……………………….
The longest-tenured player on the Maryland women’s basketball team, Faith Masonius, declared her decision to look elsewhere for her sixth and final year of eligibility, resulting in the team’s second loss this offseason to the transfer portal. Summer Bostock had already gone through the portal.
She wrote to X, “Terp nation, thank you for loving me and welcoming me with open arms throughout the past five years.” “I am incredibly fond of the school, the program, and all of the coaching and support staff.”
Since joining the Terps as the 49th-ranked recruit in their highly coveted 2019 class, which also included Diamond Miller, Ashley Owusu, and Zoe Young, Masonius has established himself as a mainstay for Maryland.
Masonius, who was voted team captain this past year, is well-known for her outstanding leadership and teamwork. She was just as effective on the court right away, participating in all 32 games during her rookie campaign. She recorded 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals in her collegiate debut.
In the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore, she outscored Alabama with a career-high 16 points and shot 54.7% from the field to get to the Sweet Sixteen. Just nine games into her junior season, Masonius had a setback when she tore her left ACL.
Still, the product of Belmar, New Jersey was able to make a comeback to the floor as a senior, starting all 35 games. She was a versatile player with an average of 6.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Although her season averages were comparable, she excelled in the postseason, leading the club in scoring in each of its final three games with at least 14 points.
Guard Shyanne Sellers remarked, “Faith is really what keeps us together and keeps us going,” after Maryland’s shocking victory over Ohio State, the top-seeded team, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal.
Masonius is presently working toward her management studies master’s degree.
Brenda Frese, the head coach, wrote on social media, “Happy to have been your coach for the past five years.” “I can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you. The Terp family is cheering you on!
