LeBron James is nearly forty years old, yet he continues to play at an absurdly high level. He is the oldest player currently playing in the NBA. After scoring 40 points in the Lakers’ 116-104 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, he broke his own record for most three-pointers made (9-10 from outside). One would believe he still has plenty of energy left in him.
‘King James’ accepts the reality in a post-game interview, despite his outstanding performance. He displays self-awareness by acknowledging that his NBA career is coming to an end and that retirement is imminent.
In an interview with Jovan Buha of The Athletic, LeBron James revealed the following about his retirement.
LeBron James on how long he expects to continue playing in the NBA: “Not very long. … I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left.” pic.twitter.com/OtJzM6cheI

Shortly, actually. I will not play for another twenty-one years, no question about it. not for very long, though. As far as when I’ll retire, I have no idea when that door will close. But I’m running out of time.
LeBron James has publicly stated over the years that he wants to complete one more task before calling it a day on his illustrious NBA career. James wants to play with his oldest son Bronny, who started his NCAA career this season at the University of Southern California. James is the Association’s all-time top scorer.
LeBron may prolong his career in order to fulfill his desire to reach that goal prior to retiring. LeBron James’s future with the Los Angeles Lakers depends on whether he exercises his player option for the upcoming season. Bronny James’ college career was put on hold after he experienced a potentially fatal heart collapse during the summer.
