Insider likens this All-Pro quarterback to Drake Maye of North Carolina.
Even though many NFL evaluators think North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye has dropped a few spots, SI.com’s Albert Breer still rates the 21-year-old signal caller as one of the best talents in the 2024 draft.
Breer remarked, “[Maye] is Josh Allen, just a step down in pretty much every category.” “Physically, I believe it might put him more in line with Joe Burrow, but he has Josh Allen’s playmaking ability, pop in his arm, and exceptional athleticism. There is enough of material there.
Despite having identical bodies, powerful arms, and all the physical qualities that make scouts salivate, Maye (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) and Allen (6-foot-5, 237 pounds) had, for unknown reasons, every little part of their games scrutinized closely before their respective drafts.
Maye started the season as the second overall pick, expected behind Caleb Williams of USC, but in some mock drafts, LSU’s Jayden Daniels has recently overtaken him as the favorite to go to the Washington Commanders.
Maye has gone from being a lock to be a top-two pick to a marginal top-five pick due to a poor season in which he passed for 713 fewer yards and 14 fewer touchdowns with two more interceptions than he did the previous year. His completion percentage also decreased significantly from 66.2% to 63.3%.
