Report: Ohio State Buckeyes Adding Former FSU Football Staffer As RBs Coach………………………..
April usually sees fewer significant coaching changes in college football, but that’s exactly what happened to start the month. Two of the best programs in the sport are changing their staffs as the spring season gets underway.
Carlos Locklyn of Oregon and Ohio State have reached an agreement for Locklyn to coach running backs, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Locklyn, a former Florida State off-field staff member, just completed a two-year contract with the Ducks, working under head coach Dan Lanning.
After Tony Alford left the Buckeyes in March to take a position with rival Michigan, the team needed a new running backs coach. They discovered a capable substitute in Locklyn, who assisted Bucky Irving in leading Eugene to consecutive seasons with over 1,000 yards. Irving, who was just nominated to the First Team All-PAC 12, is expected to be among the first running backs chosen in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Locklyn saw success in Western Kentucky, Florida State, Memphis, and the high school level in addition to his rise in prominence at Oregon. From 2017 to 20 Locklyn played for the Seminoles and Tigers under head coach Mike Norvell. In 2020, he served as FSU’s Director of High School Relations until Western Kentucky recruited him to his first college post as a position coach.
Before becoming a collegiate coach, Locklyn worked as an offensive coordinator for almost ten years in high school. Trezevant High School, Westwood High School, Manassas High School, and Cordova High School were among the Tennessee institutions he worked for.
