Prospect quarterback with a record would love to play for this AFC West club………………………………
Has Oregon quarterback Bo Nix just delivered his elevator pitch to Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton?
Nix said he would love to play for Denver in a recent podcast session hosted by Robert Griffin III, a current ESPN commentator and former NFL quarterback.
“That would be a blast playing for a coach like that,” Nix stated on “RG3 and The Ones.” He’s well-known for his collaborations with former Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Get the ball out, rapid game—things I liked to do—was what it was all about. That’s what made our work at Oregon so excellent.”
Nix is accurate, just like Brees, who has the second-highest completion percentage (67.7%) in NFL history. He established the NCCA record for completion percentage in his final season with the Ducks (77.45% in 14 games). Payton, the former Saints HC from 2006 to 21, could find this attribute appealing.
Mike Klis of Denver’s KUSA-TV earlier this week said that Nix spoke with the Broncos on Tuesday, suggesting that the 24-year-old signal-caller could be of interest to the team.
The Broncos may decide to wait and see whether Nix falls or select him with the No. 12 overall pick in the draft. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, in his most recent mock draft, has Denver selecting the 2023 Heisman winner with the No. 27 overall choice, coming from the Arizona Cardinals.
According to Feldman, a coach remarked of Nix, “He’s probably the best decision maker of the three (Pac 12 QBs)”. “He has lightning-fast diagnostic skills. Although he lacks the arm skill of Caleb Williams of Southern California and Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, I don’t think he’s too far off.”
A quarterback is sorely needed in Denver. In his two games as a starter, Jarrett Stidham finished the previous season with a 1-1 record, completing 60.6% of his throws for 496 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a 31.1 QBR that was below average. Ben DiNucci, a backup, has only ever made one start.
After he seemed to compliment Payton, don’t be shocked if the Broncos seek Nix in the draft.
