Defender intends to remain in Seattle until the 2026 campaign.
It was revealed on Wednesday that defenseman Phoebe McClernon and the Seattle Reign had reached an agreement to extend her contract by two years, meaning she will be wearing the team’s uniform for a little bit longer.
“I’m thrilled and appreciative to be extending my stay in Seattle by another two years. I adore this city and am incredibly optimistic about our team’s success with the help of our incredible supporters! In the team’s announcement, McClernon stated, “I feel so honored to represent Reign FC this season and beyond.”
After moving to Seattle in 2022, McClernon played in 10 games, making six starts. McClernon has made 20 appearances during the regular season, 15 of which have been starts. Despite missing the first half of the previous season due to a back ailment, McClernon emerged as a starter on the Reign’s defensive line in the second half with 34 clearances, 20 tackles won, and 19 interceptions. During the pre-game press conference held by the club on June 30, McClernon gave an update on her recuperation journey.
Phoebe is a model competitor and a source of energy for our club. Lesle Gallimore, general manager of Seattle Reign FC, stated in a statement issued by the team, “We are pleased that she will be staying longer in Seattle. “Phoebe is one of the best defenders in the NWSL; our fans will love what she brings on gameday because of her pace, grit, determination, and contributions in the attack.”
Before joining the Reign, McClernon was selected by the Orlando Pride with the 14th overall pick in the 2020 draft. He made 21 appearances, 15 of which were starts, before transferring across the nation to Seattle as part of a trade that sent Celia and Leah Pruitt, two draft picks, to Florida.
