West Virginia is traveling to Kansas for a two-day event.
WEST HARTFORD, W.Va. This weekend, April 5-7, the West Virginia University baseball team will return to the road to play Kansas in Lawrence. On Friday at 7 p.m. ET, on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, and on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET, Hoglund Ballpark will throw out the first pitch.
The three games can be listened to on the Mountaineer Sports Network on all radio stations, the Varsity Network, the WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com. They can also be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
The Mountaineers, who took one of three games against Oklahoma State this past weekend, have an overall record of 16-12 and a 5-4 record in the Big 12. Despite improving, West Virginia lost its opening two games.
With a batting average of.316, senior Reed Chumley leads the Mountaineers and shares a team-high six home runs with junior Grant Hussey. With 18 RBI apiece, Chumley and junior Kyle West lead the squad.
This season, senior Derek Clark is 2-0 and leads the team with a 2.25 ERA in addition to 24 strikeouts, while junior Aidan Major is 3-2 on the mound with a club-high 53 strikeouts, third most in the Big 12.
In 2024, Kansas is 15-10 under head coach Dan Fitzgerald’s second year of leadership. The Jayhawks defeated BYU in three games last weekend to raise their Big 12 record to 7-5.
Kansas is third in the Big 12 in terms of WHIP, doubles (69), and ERA (4.01).
With eight home runs and a batting average of.345, Jake English is the Jayhawks’ best player. Janson Reeder and Kodey Shojinaga were both selected for the Big 12 All-Preseason Team. With a 1.89 ERA, Dominic Voegele leads the pitching staff. Reese Dutton leads the team in strikeouts with 61 on the year.
