49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir and QB Brock Purdy are awarded significant performance bonuses…………………………….
Two 49ers late-round selections were rewarded with substantial seven-figure bonuses.
On Monday, two players for the San Francisco 49ers received some wonderful news. Both Niners quarterback Brock Purdy and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir were included among the top 25 performance-based pay distributions for the 2023 season by the NFL. A product of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NFL maintains an annual fund that is distributed to rookies selected later in the draft, depending on a formula that takes playing time and selection position into account.
Lenoir, a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft, started all 17 games as a cornerback for the 49ers and also gained experience from playing on 15% of the team’s special team snaps. In addition to his 84 tackles, Lenoir, an Oregon product, also had 10 passes defended, 3 interceptions, and 1 tackle for loss. His bonus of $790,744 ranked 14th in the league. In 2023, Lenoir’s base pay was $940,000.
It’s no secret that under Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers have had amazing success with late-round draft selections. Even with the NFL’s performance bonuses, late-round players who start on rookie contracts are still grossly underpaid. However, the discrepancy is somewhat closed.
