In a recent interview, Sharon Stone made fun of Johnny Depp for her achievements in the art world.
The Hollywood actress, whose credits include Basic Instinct and Casino, abandoned acting to focus on her painting career. She also disparaged Depp’s art collection, which sold for millions of dollars in 2022.
During the lockout, Stone rekindled her love for painting and made the decision to devote herself to it full-time when she was turned down for roles that she felt matched her abilities.
She currently has her own show open in Berlin, and in April, another is scheduled to open in San Francisco. The actor told The Guardian that although she accepted that her quick success in the arts could “probably” be linked to her notoriety, she has a number of challenges because she doesn’t always create works that galleries are interested in buying.
“Johnny Depp is printing pictures of people, putting some paint over it and signing it, and making a fortune,” Stone said, taking aim at Depp’s opulent art collection.
Stone was alluding to Depp’s Friends & Heroes, an estimated $3.65 million art collection that included 780 images of well-known faces. In 2023, he produced further prints that featured the likes of Hunter S. Thompson and Heath Ledger’s faces.
Depp also revealed a self-portrait last year that embodies the “emotional exhaustion” he experienced during a trying time in his life. Every time the image was sold, the actor gave $200 to Mental Health America.
Stone told the source that galleries had approached her and asked if she could make prints of Depp’s visage, presumably in response to the actor’s success. That’s not something I think I should be doing. It is my responsibility to hold open and open a window for other women.
Stone has already offered Depp support with regard to his private life. In 2020, Stone told The Telegraph about his high-profile legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, saying, “I’ve known Johnny since he was a kid and he’s a terrific guy: sweet and nice and very warm and generous.” Thus, it seems to me that this young woman is the main focus.
On Wednesday, March 20, Depp addressed a claim that during the filming of Blow, he was harsh with his co-star Lola Glaudini.
“Johnny always prioritizes good working relationships with cast and crew and this recounting differs greatly from the recollection of other members on set at the time,” an agent for the actor responded to Glaudini’s allegations.
