UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee (leg) will be sidelined for a few weeks.
John Rhys Plumlee, the quarterback for UCF, suffered a leg injury on Monday, which will keep him out of action for a few weeks.
This past weekend, Plumlee was hurt late in an 18-16 victory over Boise State while slicing for a 7-yard gain to put UCF in position for the game-winning field goal. Malzahn stated that surgery is not necessary, however he did not specify the type of injury.
This week, UCF takes on Villanova, and on September 23, it will play its first-ever Big 12 game at Kansas State. While Plumlee is sidelined, Timmy McClain, a transfer from the USF Bulls, will start.
Plumlee declared on social media, “I will be back!”
McClain made nine starts for USF in his first season. He participated in the late-game UCF opening against Kent State, finishing the game with three of five passes for 53 yards and two rushes for 21 yards.
“JRP is one of the better quarterbacks in all of college football so when you lose somebody like that, everybody else has got to raise their level,” stated Malzahn. “We face that challenge. We’ll definitely accomplish that.
