The American was disappointed with her performance despite winning.
On this day in 2018, Simone Biles overcame a kidney stone to become the first female gymnast to win four world titles in the all-around competition.
Because of her superiority in her sport, the American was able to afford to make a number of uncommon errors in Doha without feeling excessively threatened by her competitors; Mai Murakami of Japan finished more than 1.5 points behind.

With the win, Biles earned her second championship gold medal and her twelfth world gold medal. She continued and eventually gathered six in all: four gold, one silver, and one bronze.
She insisted, though, after declaring herself the winner overall: “I’m definitely more upset with myself than happy.” Going out and blowing up a meet like that is not who I am.
