Mark Mitchell, a former five-star, is leaving Duke due to a transfer portal……………………..
Given the abundance of talent coming to Duke for the upcoming season, one may assume that Mitchell is leaving, but he was a playmaker for the Blue Devils in the previous year, and we saw in 2024 how important veteran experience is for teams like Duke in March Madness.
While having a standout rookie is fantastic, Mitchell will be a junior and will have gained significant experience as he averaged 11.6 points and six rebounds per game as a sophomore.
Regretfully, it will now be extremely valued somewhere other than Duke for the Blue Devils.
Whether it was under Jon Scheyer or Mike Krzyzewski, Duke has never had trouble luring elite players. For example, Scheyer’s 2024 class is rated as the top class in the country, and four five-star recruits are expected to enroll in Durham, including Cooper Flagg, the top overall hoops prospect.
Having said that, you never want to lose skill and experience, and Duke will be losing precisely that when it learns that forward Mark Mitchell is leaving.
Regarding his choice, Mitchell told On3, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Duke University and all those who have supported me over the past few years.” “This community has had a profoundly positive influence on my life, and I will always hold a special place in my heart for it. Having stated that, I have made the choice to enter my name into the transfer portal.”
