Which positions will the Chiefs’ opponents target in the NFL Draft of 2024?…………………….
The Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the NFL are in the final stages of scouting the top draft prospects with the NFL draft just over two weeks away.
For the last ten years, the Chiefs have ruled the AFC West. Before Kansas City’s 2024 season, they had won the division eight times in a row, therefore their opponents would undoubtedly be fired up to defeat the defending Super Bowl champions the next year.
Any team hoping to succeed for an extended period of time must invest in the development of young talent, and the Chiefs’ AFC West competitors will have their best opportunity to gain a competitive advantage in the draft in April 2024 if they hope to catch Kansas City.
Since Patrick Mahomes will be playing for a considerable amount of money for the foreseeable future, general manager Brett Veach will need to surround the all-star quarterback with young, inexpensive players.
Examine the most pressing needs of each AFC West team before the 2024 NFL Draft:
Although it was an incredible accomplishment for the Chiefs to win a Super Bowl last season with among the worst receiving groups in the league, this formula is unsustainable, particularly given the caliber of quarterbacks in the AFC.
Although Marquise Brown was a surprise addition this offseason, the depth Kansas City has at the receiving position may influence the Chiefs’ selection in the first round.
Whether they select early in the draft or later, the Chiefs will prioritize adding a top-tier pass-catcher.
Las Vegas Raiders
A reliable point scorer as quarterback is crucial while playing in a division with quarterbacks like Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes.
Since Las Vegas only has two signal-callers on their roster right now—Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew—the Raiders may need to use their No. 13 pick on a quarterback.
If Las Vegas stays still and waits for one of the best candidates to come along, they may easily come away empty-handed. Vegas will need to think about trading into the top 10 if the Raiders believe that the quarterback is their main goal.
Denver Broncos
After two turbulent seasons during which the Broncos granted him a five-year, $245 million agreement, Russell Wilson was released by Denver. Sean Payton never thought highly of the 35-year-old quarterback as his starting quarterback, and Denver will probably select their next quarterback in the draft in 2024.
Bo Nix has been strongly associated with the Broncos during the selection process; Denver might be prepared to take a chance on him by selecting him with the No. 12 pick.
After Wilson’s dismal quarterback play last year, Payton is sure to favor Nix’s ability to process and distribute the ball correctly. Nix is an older prospect.
Los Angeles Chargers
Despite having quality on the roster, the Los Angeles Rams have underperformed year after year; Jim Harbaugh’s presence could change that. Justin Herbert’s talent has essentially been underutilized throughout his first two years with the Chargers; perhaps the new captain will bring it to full potential.
Following the release of Mike Williams and the trade of Keenan Allen to Chicago, Los Angeles is in need of a weapon to supplement Harbaugh’s new offensive scheme. As the top receiver on the depth chart right now, Quentin Johnston might pose a serious threat to the Chargers given how poorly the TCU product performed in his first campaign.
Receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers could be good choices for the Chargers when they are on the clock, as Los Angeles is expected to select anywhere in the top five.
Given that the Chargers need to address several areas in this draft, Los Angeles is a popular trade-down prospect. However, if the team decides to hold onto its present position, wide receiver Harrison or Nabers would be an obvious decision.
