Olney, Maryland’s Eidan Buchanan, an offensive lineman for Good Counsel, is another important addition to the West Virginia football program’s 2025 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-8, 325-pound Buchanan chose the Mountaineers from a group of candidates that also included Wisconsin, Maryland, Rutgers, and Kentucky.
He visited all of those institutions before deciding to commit to West Virginia, providing a significant upfront contribution to the program.
In addition to the institutions on his list of top choices, Buchanan had offers from several more schools, including Miami (Fla.), Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Boston College.
He explained, “I chose West Virginia because I adore the surroundings, the people, and the coaches.”
In the summer of 2023, West Virginia extended a scholarship offer to the three-star prospect ranked by Rivals.com, following his outstanding performance at the program’s big man camp.
Due to his strong familial ties to the Parkersburg region, Buchanan had ties to the program. His primary recruiter was offensive line coach Matt Moore. This indicated that he was a lifelong Mountaineer supporter, which affected his recruiting after things heated up.
“My relationship with coach Moore is great, and we talk a lot,” he stated.
Being a frequent visitor to Morgantown, Buchanan developed a close rapport with the coaching staff that was crucial in positioning the Mountaineers to win his recruiting.
The affection Morgantown residents have for the team and their excellent facilities really jumped out. I adore that the weight room and the classroom are housed in the same structure,” he remarked.
Buchanan is aimed for an offensive tackle or guard position in West Virginia’s playbook, and his stature and flexibility have impressed the coaching staff.
After obtaining center Kyle Altuner in the previous class, West Virginia has now selected an offensive line prospect from Good Counsel for the second year in a row.
