Daylen Austin, an Oregon defensive back, is reportedly under arrest and facing felony charges after he is suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run collision that resulted in death on Monday night in Eugene.
James Crepea of “Oregon Live” claims that Austin, 19, was arrested and is still being held at Lane County Jail as of this writing.
According to the Eugene Police Department, the incident in issue occurred on Monday at approximately 9:10 p.m. “Hit and run with a vehicle” is a Class C felony in Oregon, with a maximum term of up to five years in jail and fines that can reach up to $125,000. No other details have been revealed as of yet.
According to Oregon’s Short Law Group, if there is a fatality, the driver may be charged with a Class B felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum fine of $250K, or both.
A Eugene Police Department representative told Crepea, “This is a complex investigation and EPD is still gathering information to be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision.”
In addition, an Oregon representative offered the following statement: “We are aware of the incident and are awaiting additional information.”
Austin played in just three games as a redshirt freshman for Oregon last season, recording three tackles and one pass breakup. He was once a four-star prospect.
