Following questionable strikes, Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph is recuperating from hip surgery……………………….
Detroit Lions defender Kerby Joseph had surgery of his own after receiving flak from rivals for low hits that severely hurt tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Tyler Higbee last season and required knee operations.
Joseph disclosed this week, at the Lions offseason program’s inception, that he had hip surgery and would miss spring practice. However, Joseph went on to say that he hopes to be prepared when training camp gets underway.
Joseph reportedly answered, “I’m good, man,” according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. A minor setback, but that’s not insignificant. J-Kerb is unstoppable. I’m going to give it my all.”
This past season, he suffered a hip injury in a Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He missed two games as a result, but he managed to play through the ailment for the rest of the campaign. For the second straight season, he had 82 tackles and tied for the team lead with four interceptions.
According to Joseph, his play was unaffected by his injured hip.
Joseph declared, “I’m going 100 percent out there.” “There are no obstacles. Every time, I will give it everything I’ve got. No justifications.”
In a victory over the Minnesota Vikings on December 24, he tackled Hockenson at knee level following a reception, which caused the former Lion to flip around. It is evident that this tackle did not bother him. In Detroit’s playoff victory over Los Angeles on January 15, Joseph delivered a similar hit on Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee.
Hockenson had surgery on his ACL during the end of January. Although he didn’t believe the hit was dirty, he did say he would have rather been attacked higher.
In addition to requiring surgery, Higbee, whose injury was more severe, tore his ACL during the play. Rams coach Sean McVay stated that he anticipates Higbee will be placed on the PUP list when training camp starts. Higbee is anticipated to miss time next season.
The NFL penalized Kerby $5,032 dollars. After the hit, Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for Los Angeles and a former Lion, ran up to Joseph and called him “dirty as (expletive)”.
