New England Patriots: A Future NFL Draft selection in the second round in tackle 2024……………………………….
Offensive lineman is one of the New England Patriots’ most pressing needs in the NFL Draft, though they may choose to go several different routes. They shouldn’t be aiming to take a tackle at third overall if that’s where they choose to pick. Many in the league think they’ll use their first-round pick to select a quarterback and then use the other picks to build around the player who will be the team’s face in the future.
Would that imply selecting a tackle with their second-round pick? How will the Patriots use their assets to move around the draft board in a loaded offensive tackle class? And lastly, will New England select a possible superstar with a history of injuries at choice number thirty-four?
Should teams choose not to select Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Patriots may find themselves in a fortunate position. In addition to being a terrific athlete, Mims is a huge person. With a height of six feet eight inches and a weight of 340 pounds, Mims is large enough to match any NFL player. Within a few years, he could rank among the league’s top tackles thanks to his strength and agility.
How, therefore, did he make it to the second round? Mims is extremely inexperienced and has a history of injuries. There are a lot of questions around this talent, so some teams might be reluctant to invest a first-round draft pick on him after he only started eight games in college. Fortunately for the Patriots, this may mean that they select him early in the second round, providing New England with a first-round player of exceptional value.
Might the Patriots choose to pursue a gifted player like Mims more aggressively? New England might try to move up from 34 overall if they see a strong run at the tackle position in the late first round. The Patriots will have a far better chance of selecting a potential franchise tackle if they reenter the first round. Is Director of Scouting Eliot Wolf going to take Mims seriously if he turns out to be too wonderful to pass up?
Is it possible to “weaponize” the Patriots offense with an offensive tackle?
Eliot Wolf, the director of scouting for the New England Patriots, spoke at the NFL Combine about his goal of “weaponizing” the attack. That was taken by many to mean selecting a top-tier quarterback in the draft and making trades for big-time receivers.
Could Wolf, though, see an incredibly gifted tackle as a new offensive weapon? After New England selects him and he lives up to the expectation, Mims will significantly change the offense’s ability to be more dynamic in 2024 and beyond. He might therefore be seen as a crucial component of a recently “weaponized” offensive.
