Logan Ryan exhorts the Giants to get a quality receiver in Daniel Jones……………………………
To the expanding list of people advising the team not to trade up for quarterback J.J. McCarthy in the 2024 NFL draft, add former New York Giants safety Logan Ryan.
In a recent appearance on ESPN, Ryan advised the Giants to find quarterback Daniel Jones a capable and effective No. 1 wide out in addition to cautioning them against selecting McCarthy.
“Listen, New Yorkers: do not acquire J.J. McCarthy by trading up to the fourth pick. Don’t do it, Ryan advised. “I simply don’t think that the quarterback selected as the fourth pick in this draft—whoever you have—is any better than Daniel Jones when he was a college student.”
Ryan also complimented Jones on possessing all the qualities required to succeed in the NFL, although he did admit that injury concerns are a concern.
Ryan believes it’s better to sign a top wide receiver now to ease the transition if the Giants decide to replace Jones in the future.
“Daniel is tall, athletic, and possesses an arm. We’re aware of that, added Ryan. Daniel Jones’s capacity to maintain his health has been an issue. Take one of the top pass catchers available, such as Rome Odunze of Washington or Malik Nabers of LSU, if you don’t like that. When you do acquire that quarterback in the future, give him a quality receiver. They require that.
“Every member of their roster is deficient. A superb receiver is required. Grab him at number six in this fantastic receiver draft.
As Thursday’s selection draws near, it appears that this is the prevailing consensus, as general manager Joe Schoen even hinted that he would feel at ease skipping over quarterbacks entirely.
