Wild prospect Danila Yurov wins KHL Championship……………………..
Danila Yurov, one of the Wild’s best prospects, has won the Gagarin Cup. The Stanley Cup of the NHL, but for the KHL.
After Metallurg prevailed in the championship game, Danila Yurov, one of the Wild’s best prospects, is officially the Gagarin Cup Champion. The KHL’s equivalent of the Stanley Cup is called the Gagarin Cup.
Yurov, 20, led Metallurg in points (49) and goals (21), winning 62 games in the regular season. With six goals throughout the playoffs, he was second on the club in goals scored.
Throughout 84 regular season and playoff games, he has scored 27 goals and 58 points, making him the most productive D+2 player the KHL has ever seen. D+2 designates his season following the NHL Draft.
During the regular season, Yurov, 20, led Metallurg in goals scored (21), points scored (49), and games played (62). With six goals throughout the playoffs, he ranked second on the club.
The KHL has never seen a player’s D+2 year produce as much as he has, with 27 goals and 58 points in 84 regular season and postseason games. D+2 denotes the season that followed the NHL Draft.
This suggests that Yurov would desire to sign with the Wild and become a professional after winning the KHL Cup, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Yurov has been given every opportunity to sign a deal that would bring him over, but the young talent is most likely to accept a one-year contract in the KHL, as Michael Russo noted in his most recent mailbag post.
This would allow Yurov to play another season in the KHL and then come over to Minnesota for the 2025-26 season. There is thought that Yurov is ready to play in the NHL but one more year in the KHL would not hurt him at all. This could help him better translate his game to the NHL rather than playing some time in the AHL.
