Amari Williams choosing to remain in Kentucky after speaking with Mark Pope
Amari Williams’ dedication to the Kentucky Wildcats is unwavering.
Even though the Drexel center had already committed to the Wildcats, Williams’ agency was still shopping him to other universities, according to Rivals’ David Sisk on Wednesday.
Williams visited with UK head coach Mark Pope later that evening, and it seems that Pope was persuaded to continue with the Cats.
This is what ESPN reporter Jonathan Givony claims.
It’s hard to hold Williams or his representative accountable if they were concerned that Brandon Garrison and Andrew Carr from Kentucky might challenge for the two frontcourt berths. However, Williams will probably play more than 20 minutes per game even if he comes off the bench because Kentucky only truly has three legitimate big men at this point.
This past season, as a senior at Drexel, the 6-foot-11 Englishman won his third consecutive Coastal Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year title with an average of 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game. He was chosen for the First Team All-CAA as well.
