To bolster its offensive line even further, UCF recruited running back Peny Boone—who earned MAC Offensive Player of the Year with Toledo last autumn—through the transfer portal.
Boone announced his commitment on Wednesday. In the spring, he worked out with the Cardinals after moving to Louisville for the first time. With 15 touchdowns and 15 receptions in 2023, he was ranked sixth in the US in rushing yards (1,400) and ninth in yards from scrimmage (1,619).
The 6′ 1″, 242 pound player used the transfer portal for the first time in December and came back on April 17. He started his career at Maryland, where he ran for 172 yards in 2021, before relocating to Toledo, where he recorded 443 rushing yards in 2022.
Boone, a native of Detroit, will be starting quarterback for UCF with KJ Jefferson, an Arkansas transfer quarterback, who finished 11th in the nation in rushing average (107.7 yards per game). RJ Harvey, the team’s leading rusher with 1,416 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in the previous year, along with several returning players, lead the Knights in their second season in the Big 12.
