The Pirates should shuffle their squad before the Rockies visit…………

With most players on the roster struggling, the Pirates might gain by adding some fresh or somewhat new players.
The Pittsburgh Pirates this week in the Bay Area looked horrible, let’s face it.
With the exception of Ke’Bryan Hayes and starting pitchers, nobody on the roster stood out. The Pirates lost both series against San Francisco and Oakland due to a high number of strikeouts, watched strikes, and poor contact. Nevertheless, before the Bucs return home to meet the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels this weekend, adjustments must be made.
Here are a few guys the Pirates should think about promoting and some who should make the trip to Indianapolis because there are a lot of players there on hot streaks.
Demote: Jack Suwinski, Promote: Nick Gonzales
As we enter the third year of Suwinski’s career, he remains unimpressive but for a few hot streaks. At the moment, he is fifth in the National League and has the 13th worst WRC+ in baseball (49).
His only assets are speed and power, but what use are they when he hardly ever makes contact or advances to base? Michael A. Taylor and Edward Olivares, at least, CAN occasionally get on base.
Gonzales, meanwhile, hasn’t let up since the Triple-A season began on March 29. Gonzales has only gone hitless in two games while slashing.374/.436/.606 in 24 games with a 1.042 OPS, three home runs, and fifteen RBI. In one, he used two walks to reach twice.
In addition, he has reduced his strikeout percentage to just 18%. Given that it was at 28% the previous season, the Pirates expected him to improve on this, and it would be an understatement to say he has.
Promote: Henry Davis; Demote: Yasmani Grandal
In Triple-A, Davis has to find himself again, badly. There hasn’t been much of a breakout for the former first overall pick this season, and he has been lackluster thus far.
With a.490 OPS, he has not hit a home run in 23 games. Furthermore, he has only caught 29% of baserunners stealing, which is getting close to Rod Barajas-like stats.
Does Grandal have the solution to the Pirates’ catching issues? Most likely not, but whereas Grandal occasionally coaches and catches, Davis needs time to reflect on his life while playing on the field.
Select/Advance: Rowdy Tellez, DFA: Jake Lamb
The Pirates supporters expected Tellez to become the player they knew in 2022 when he signed in the off-season. He’s not living up to those expectations thus far.
Tellez is slashing.205/.287/.265 through 31 games, with 22 strikeouts and one home run (which came in the first series versus Miami). In contrast, he had a slash line and home run total of.248/.328/.554 with nine big flies through the first 31 games of the previous season.
Mathematicians don’t need to be experts to figure out that Tellez’s season is off to more than simply a sluggish start.
Fans, on the other hand, would prefer to see minor leaguer Jake Lamb or Connor Joe because they have Major League experience.
After 64 at-bats, Lamb is hitting.391, with three home runs and 14 RBI, showing that he is settling in nicely with Indianapolis. Other than failing at the Major League Baseball level, where he has battled throughout his ten-year career, he has nothing more to prove.
However, we don’t truly work on improving first base here in Pittsburgh.
Move to 60-day IL: Marco Gonzales – OR – Ryan Borucki, Select/Promote: Paul Skenes
Although this one may have been very clear, it’s difficult to understand why Skenes is still in Triple-A.
In 23 innings pitched in Triple-A, Skenes has struck out 41 batters while giving up only one earned run. He has also progressed into lengthier games and deeper pitch counts; in fact, he reached six in his most recent start against Buffalo.
As they recover from various injuries, Borucki and Gonzales won’t be throwing for a while, according to Todd Tomczyk, Director of Sports Medicine, who made this announcement on Wednesday.
Someone may be assigned at a later date if they recover and prepare for the second half of the year.
Finally, a home debut for Skenes against the Rockies or Angels would be a fantastic way to launch him.
Special mentions
The Pirates may also think about calling up infielders Ji Hwan Bae and Liover Peguero, who are both off to strong starts in the season. Sending down the steady pair of Jared Triolo and Alika Williams is the main issue.
Although Triolo in particular isn’t putting up world-beating stats, the squad may find it too hazardous to take away their defense.
