Seventh round in Vegas is shaping up like the first round………………
NHL draft selections in the seventh round have about a five percent probability of making it to the NHL. However, Carl Lindbom, a Vegas prospect, is poised to overcome those odds.
Lindbom, a Swedish goalie selected by the Golden Knights with the 222nd overall pick (third from the bottom) in the 2021 NHL draft, has steadily risen up the Vegas prospect standings. He received Hockey Allsvenskan Goalie of the Year two seasons ago. That’s the second division in Sweden.
Lindbom had a fantastic season for Farjestads BK Karlstad this year in the Swedish Hockey League, finishing with a 17-7-0 record and a.911 save percentage.
Lindbom joined the Golden Knights during the summer. It’s difficult not to rank the 20-year-old as one of the Golden Knights’ top three prospects, regardless of whether he plays for Henderson in the AHL or spends another season in the SHL in North America.
The coaches of the Swedish National Team appear to recognise Lindbom’s potential as well. He was given four opportunities to play for the national team.
He was not selected to play for the World Championship squad. However, on April 18, Sweden defeated Finland 4-0 in an exhibition game, and Lindbom recorded a shutout with 25 saves. After five days, he stopped eighteen of twenty shots in Finland’s 3-0 defeat.
With no stable full of elite prospects, a Vegas team may find Lindbom’s remarkable progress to be significant.
Putting Supplies on Shelves
The Golden Knights’ understocked prospect cupboard is the price they have to pay for missing the playoffs six times out of their first seven seasons.
In order to advance to the Stanley Cup Final twice and win it in 2023, the Golden Knights are prepared to exchange first-round draft picks and prospects for immediate assistance.
That practice is still in place. Due to the Vegas Sphere nature of the selection, they choose to retain their 2024 first-round pick. However, in the transactions with Tomas Hertl and Noah Hanifin, they have already dealt their first round picks for 2025 and 2026.
The Golden Knights’ prospect list gets strengthened if Lindbom proves to be a starter.
