Tyler Myers’ injury scare concerns the Canucks in Game 2 against the Oilers
The goal for the Vancouver Canucks against the Edmonton Oilers is to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Up until now, Game 2 has been a back-and-forth affair. However, halfway through the first session, Vancouver was given a slight scare. After hitting Edmonton forward Mattias Janmark, defenseman Tyler Myers was rattled up.
Myers was also out for the remainder of the first period with the Oilers. Moreover, at the start of the second period, the seasoned Canucks defender was not on the bench. But now he’s back on the Vancouver bench. Although it’s certainly important to keep an eye on this, the Canucks have access to every defenseman they have right now.
Tyler Myers is a key member of the Canucks
For the past five seasons, Tyler Myers has lived in Vancouver. Additionally, the seasoned rearguard has been a key member of the Canucks starting lineup each season. Despite a decline in ice time in 2023–24, Myers is a regular on Vancouver’s top four blueline. The veteran has played almost 20 minutes a game in the playoffs.
No one on the ice is more of a showman than Myers. But every single night, he puts forth a strong effort. From the point, he is also capable of producing secondary offence. The seasoned backguard scored 29 points and five goals in 2023–2024. His offensive production reached its highest point total since the 2018–19 Winnipeg Jets season.
Against the Nashville Predators in the first round, the Canucks battled injury issues. They specifically struggled with keeping their goalies healthy. After just four games of that battle, Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith both had ailments that kept them out of action. Myers did not miss time due to an injury, though.
The seasoned defenseman was sidelined due to influenza. In the series, he was not present for Game 2, which Nashville won 4-1. With five hits and three blocked shots in the opening game, Myers put on a strong defensive display. He participated in each contest for about 20 minutes after his comeback, with the exception of Game 5.
Tyler Myers again played about twenty minutes in the opening game against the Oilers. In that game, he and Filip Hronek played more shifts than any other suited defenceman. Myers had three hits in Game 1’s comeback victory for Vancouver, but he did not block any shots.
