Angel Reese will link up with a familiar opponent at the next level in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
And with that, the number of the Chicago Sky’s entire fan base is about to increase significantly. Angel Reese, a forward from LSU, was taken seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft today. He will play in the Windy City with Kamilla Cardoso, a former SEC rival.
Seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Angel Reese was chosen.
LSU forward Angel Reese has been projected as a seventh- to tenth-round pick ever since she announced her intention to enter the 2024 WNBA Draft, and those predictions proved to be accurate.
The 6-foot-3 Baltimore, Maryland native had to wait through six selections, including some of the greatest names in women’s college basketball this past season, before being officially selected No. 7 overall by the Chicago Sky.
The Sky have added one of the fiercest opponents in women’s basketball with their selection—a player who, given the chance, can stuff a stat sheet. The standout forward was a multi-tasking player for the Tigers in 2023–24, averaging 18.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 block per game as a senior.
In Chicago, the standout LSU forward will be partnered with a well-known opponent.
Reese was notably not Chicago’s only top-10 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Sky selected South Carolina centre Kamilla Cardoso with the third overall choice.
The 6-foot-7 Montes Claros, BR, native was one of the hardest players to stop during the previous women’s collegiate basketball season, helping her team win the national championship. It’s interesting to note that two victories over LSU and Angel Reese coincided with that national title run.
But that is all in the past now, as the two will likely work together to create an absolute force down low for a Chicago club that could use a little more domination in the paint.
Finally, the Sky chose shooting guard Brynna Maxwell with the 13th overall choice, their third selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 guard from Gonzaga was one of the most potent three-point shooters in the draft, finishing her five-year career with a 42.7 percent shooting percentage.
One month from now comes the start of the WNBA season, which will see the Chicago Sky take on the Dallas Wings on May 15 at 7:00 p.m. CST. There’s little question that a sizable number of supporters from both LSU and South Carolina will descend on campus to witness Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese reunited for the first time in a long time if both players manage to make the 2024 roster.
