In an offseason transaction that sent Aari McDonald to the Sparks, Canada was transferred to Atlanta. Canada not only averaged team-highs of 6.0 assists and 2.3 steals in 2023, but also finished as Los Angeles’ second-leading scorer.
Veteran Tina Charles, an eight-time All-Star who won MVP in 2012, joined The Dream as well. After being absent from the 2023 season, Charles is returning to the league.
Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, an Atlanta forward who will play in the frontcourt alongside Charles, said, “It’s been great.” “All we’re doing is getting to know one another and develop that chemistry. Our goal is to rank among the league’s top pairs, so we’re just focused on keeping in touch with one another.”
Last season, Parker-Tyus led Atlanta with 6.7 rebounds per game and a team-high 1.5 shot blocks per game. She finished behind Allisha Grey (17.1) and Rhyne Howard (17.5 points per game), who are both making a comeback to the Dream this season, with an average of 15.0 points.
Atlanta finished 19–21 in 2023 and lost the opening round of the playoffs to the Dallas Wings 2-0.
