Tanner Mordecai, the starting quarterback for the 2023 Packers, left to join the San Francisco 49ers, and Van Dyke seems certain to take over as the starting quarterback for the Badgers this autumn.
The seasoned quarterback spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, winning the ACC Rookie of the Year award in 2021 after redshirting as a freshman. He was also named the ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year. At Miami, he finished his career with 7,478 throwing yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions.
Van Dyke played in 11 games in 2023, averaging 8.1 yards per attempt while passing for 2,703 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The 6’4″ quarterback from Glastonbury, Connecticut, was rated as a four-star prospect and ranked seventh in the 2020 recruiting class.
Van Dyke was hindered by injuries and difficulties on the pitch in 2022. Due to injury, he missed portions of six games and finished with less than 2,000 throwing yards.
Nevertheless, the prospects for Van Dyke with Phil Longo’s pass-friendly offence should give Wisconsin supporters hope right away. He has a lot of quality around him and might have the best season of his career.
