Transfer forward Dillon Mitchell from Texas commits to the UC Bearcats……………………….
Through the transfer portal on Friday, the men’s basketball team of Cincinnati Bearcats added another important talent.
Dillon Mitchell, a former forward for the Texas Longhorns who spent two seasons in Austin, announced on social media that he was joining the Bearcats.
During his two seasons with the Longhorns, 6-foot-8 forward Mitchell from Tampa, Florida, averaged 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and was a vital member of back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams.
In his 38 appearances as a freshman in 2022–23, Mitchell averaged 4.3 points per game while starting for Texas’ Elite Eight squad. Mitchell improved to a 9.6 point scoring average in his sophomore year the previous year, pulling down more than seven rebounds each game.
The former 4-star recruit, who shot over 60% on two-point attempts in both of his Texas seasons, plays most of his offensive games inside the three-point line.
Mitchell will now join a Cincinnati team that returns a number of starters and important players from its 22-game winning squad from the previous campaign, which advanced to the NIT.
Guard Dan Skillings Jr. (12.9 PPG from the previous season), guard Simas Lukosius (11.8 PPG), and point guards Day Day Thomas and Jizzle James are a few of the players returning.
Though 7-foot center Aziz Bandaogo, who averaged just under seven points per game the previous season, is likely to return, UC lost forward Viktor Lakhin to Clemson.
Mitchell will provide Wes Miller’s offense, which finished eighth in the Big 12 conference with 74.7 points per game the previous season, greater frontcourt depth and playmaking abilities.
Mitchell joins former Bradley guard Connor Hickman and former USC forward Arrinten Page as the third transfer to declare his commitment to the Bearcats this summer.
