After John Rhys Plumlee, the quarterback for UCF, completed the game-winning drive against Boise State on Saturday, Timmy McClain, a transfer from South Florida, will have to start for the Knights for the next several weeks.
With 31 seconds remaining, Plumlee went down on a 7-yard run and hurt his leg as his cleat seemed to dig into the ground during a confrontation with Broncos defenders. Colton Boomer converted a 40-yard range goal to seal the victory with an 18-16 score.
“Towards the end of that game, he became hurt. took a fair amount of damage, UCF coach Gus Malzahn stated on Monday. “He will be absent this week and for several weeks after that. Fortunately, he does not require surgery. He’ll return.
At least two sessions a week, usually on Tuesday and Wednesday, uand Plumlee share reps equally, according to Malzahn, in order to keep the offense and squad comfortable in circumstances similar to this weekend’s game against Villanova. Next week (September 23), UCF (2-0) travels to Kansas State for their Big 12 debut.
Regarding McClain, Malzahn stated, “He’s ready to go.” We are really confident in him. a man who, as a true freshman, participated in and started football games. Therefore, I’m incredibly happy that Timmy took over for that.”
Plumlee, a fifth-year senior, has completed 38 of 54 pass attempts for 553 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He has also gained 163 running yards on 19 carries.
