REPORT: Anthony Johnson Jr., WKU’s starting cornerback, is leaving the transfer portal……………..
Anthony Johnson Jr., a defensive back for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, withdrew from the transfer portal, according to a story published on Thursday by On3’s Pete Nakos. On April 16, he made his initial gateway entry.
Johnson was named the Famous Toastery Bowl’s Defensive MVP after WKU defeated Old Dominion in December. In that game, he recorded eight tackles and one interception. With a 90.3 rating, Johnson was the fourth-highest ranked cornerback by Pro Football Focus in 2023.
Johnson, a native of Miami, played for Division II West Florida for two seasons before signing with the Hilltoppers before of the 2023 campaign. played in 21 games while attending UWF, accumulating 69 tackles, 15 pass breakups, 5 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries.
Last season, he recorded 44 tackles with one TFL, four interceptions, a fumble recovery, and five pass breakups, earning him an honorable mention spot on the All-CUSA team. In the victory over Louisiana Tech, WKU, he also stopped a kick.
Johnson Jr. should be able to play one more season.
