The Chicago Cubs lost three of the four games in their disappointing weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. There were two enduring issues. The Cubs’ lack of offensive production and Kyle Hendricks’ inefficiency. Regarding Hendricks, it appears to move past him. Although he was a fantastic Cub, his time is now over. The Cubs are in a better place. Living in the past is pointless.
Red Sox RHP diagnosed with ligament damage in elbow
That is true of the crime to some extent. Ian Happ is having a rough time.208 when slugging alone, with an OPS of.624.302 with two two-run shots. A quarter of the season has passed. It’s said that the Cubs have a strong farm system. It’s time to trade some of the prospects for more players or to let them play.
Right now, Happ ought to be getting less playing time than Mike Tauchman and Pete Crow-Armstong Jr.
It’s been a black hole of catching.
Yan Gomes had a fantastic season last year both at bat and behind the plate, but his output has drastically decreased. He is only hitting.182 this season with a slug of.288 and an OBP of.191. Yan had 63 RBIs, 10 home runs, and an OPS of.723 in the previous season. Last season, he was incredibly crucial. Well, not so much this season.
Gomes not only has terrible statistics, but he also appears to be overmatched at the plate. Furthermore, Miguel Amaya has performed almost as poorly despite playing more than Gomes. Miguel has an OPS of.528.
Miles Mastrobuoni, good bye
It hasn’t gone well for the Cubs when Miles Mastrobuoni and Nick Madrigal play shortstop and second base together. Please let me know if you know what the Cubs think about Miles Mastrobuoni. Although he is versatile, he is not a good hitter.
Luis Vazquez, an infielder with the Cubs, was called up from Iowa to the major league squad. I hope that means Mastrobuoni will be demoted, though it’s unclear what the equivalent roster move will be.
Madrigal ought to be a big-league team’s 26th player. In critical instances, he can at least establish contact.
The Cubs could win the division.
