Christian Anaya and Garrett Coon, former Montana State Bobcats, commit to new initiatives
Christian Anaya and Garrett Coon, two former Montana State football players, revealed last week that they had committed to new teams.
Coon is moving to South Dakota in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, while Anaya is transferring to Western Illinois in the Ohio Valley Conference. WIU and USD compete at the same level as MSU in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Anaya is a rising redshirt sophomore wide receiver from Chandler, Arizona, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 182 pounds. During his 2022 redshirt season, he grabbed one pass for 11 yards in a single game. In the previous season, he recorded two catches for 38 yards in six games. On three of MSU’s first four 2023 depth charts, he was listed as the starting “Z” receiver. However, as Big Sky Conference play started, he dropped to the backup position, and by the end of the season, he was no longer in the two-deep.
Rising redshirt junior running back Coon, a native of Sheridan, Wyoming, is 6 feet and 195 pounds. In 2021, he was only given one carry in a single game. In 2022, he ran for 50 carries for 307 yards and a touchdown. In the previous season, he gained 65 yards on 10 carries. Colson, Coon’s brother, is a rising MSU redshirt freshman.
Among the ten Bobcats reported to have accessed the transfer portal since the 2023 season concluded are Anaya and Coon. The others are DB, defensive back Kendric Bailey (still in the portal), offensive lineman Omar Aigbedion (signed with Baylor), and DB/LB Aidan Parks (Montana Tech), OL Rush Reimer (Cal), linebacker Jace Fitzgerald (Montana Western), OL Jacob Kettels (Kennesaw State), and defensive lineman Sebastian Valdez (Washington) are among the players who represent Montana.
