Dear Kansas Jayhawks Family and the larger community,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that our favorite center, Hunter Dickinson, is currently in serious condition following a shooting. This horrible act of violence has left us all stunned and deeply saddened.
First and foremost, we are thinking and praying for Hunter and his family during this extremely difficult time. Hunter joined the Jayhawks with the goal of succeeding on the basketball floor, earning an excellent education, and proudly representing our university. His devotion, hard effort, and passion for the game have already earned him respect and admiration in our community.
Hunter’s family, please know that the entire Kansas community supports you. We are here to offer our encouragement, strength, and prayers. This university is more than simply an educational institution; it is a family, and we are determined to do everything we can to help during this difficult time.
This occurrence serves as a sharp reminder to our students, faculty, and staff about the unpredictable nature of life, as well as the value of community and support. We must get together to support Hunter, his family, and one another. Let us transform our sadness into solidarity, our suffering into support, and our fear into a determination to make our community a safer place for all.
The University of Kansas administration, in collaboration with local law enforcement, is fully committed to ensuring that justice is served and that our campus is a safe environment for all students. We are working directly with authorities to thoroughly investigate this situation, and we will keep the community updated as more information becomes available.
In times like this, it is critical to rely on one another. Let us band together to support Hunter Dickinson and his family, console those affected, and reaffirm our dedication to the safety and well-being of our whole community. We shall survive this catastrophe and emerge stronger.
With deepest sympathy and solidarity,
