Jordan Beck, a Rockies outfielder, fractured his left hand while diving for a Nick Castellanos line drive in Colorado’s 8-4 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday. Beck was forced to leave the game due to an injury, and the Rockies placed him on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, calling up outfielder Sean Bouchard from Triple-A in his place. Beck told reporters (including Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post) that he will undergo additional testing on Sunday and may then have a clearer notion of his recovery schedule.
Beck has been Colorado’s daily left fielder since his MLB debut on April 30, as the Rox wanted to get a good look at the top-100 prospect. Beck’s transition has not been easy, as he hit only.190/.198/.316 with 30 strikeouts in his first 81 big league plate appearances. The broken hand just adds to his problems, albeit the opportunity to gain major league experience while on the IL may be a minor bright spot for the 23-year-old.
Other changes in baseball’s injury listings…
- The Cardinals placed right-hander Nick Robertson on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 23) and promoted right-hander Andre Pallante from Triple-A Memphis. Robertson is struggling with inflammation in his pitching elbow, but he told Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat that he does not think the ailment is serious. St. Louis acquired Robertson from the Red Sox as part of a deal package for Tyler O’Neill last December, and he has a 4.38 ERA in 12 1/3 innings for the Cardinals’ bullpen. Robertson’s ERA is inflated by a.364 BABIP and three home runs allowed, despite good walk (3.8%) and strikeout (26.9%) rates.
- The Mariners recalled left-hander Tayler Saucedo from the 15-day injured list and made roster space by optioning righty Eduard Bazardo to Triple-A. Saucedo returns after missing just under three weeks due to hyperextension of his right knee. Saucedo, who emerged as a good member of Seattle’s bullpen last year, has improved even more this season, with a 2.70 ERA and 52.8% grounder rate in his first 14 appearances and 13 1/3 innings in 2024.
