Open Letter to Cleveland Guardians and Fans
Dear Cleveland Guardians and Fans,
As I sit down to write these lines, I am overwhelmed with thankfulness and nostalgia. It’s been years since I last wore the Cleveland uniform, but our bond is as strong as ever. Even after I retired, your unfailing love and support have served as a continuing source of inspiration.
I knew I was part of something amazing from the moment I stepped onto Jacobs Field. The roar of the fans, the sea of blue and red, and the electrifying atmosphere of each game left me with memories that will last a lifetime. It was in Cleveland that I had some of the most memorable experiences of my career, made even more precious by the passionate and dedicated fans who supported us through every high and low.
Playing for the Cleveland Indians, now known as the Guardians, was more than simply a job. It was an honor and a privilege to represent a city and community that exemplifies resiliency, hard effort, and unshakable dedication. Cleveland has a distinct mentality that welcomes its sports stars and treats them like family. I felt it every time I ran out to center field, and it lingered long after the final out.
Your ongoing support and love for me, even in retirement, is humbling. Whether it’s a social media shout-out, a wave at a public event, or a meaningful letter, each gesture serves as a reminder of the amazing community in which I was blessed to play. You’ve all played an important role in my life, both professionally and personally. Cleveland is more than just a chapter in my career; it’s a piece of my heart and soul.
Thank you, Guardians organization, for the memories and opportunity. You offered a platform for me to thrive, and I am eternally thankful. To the fans, you are the team’s heartbeat. Your enthusiasm, passion, and love of the game are unrivaled. You have made Cleveland a second home for me, for which I am eternally grateful.
As I see the current Guardians on the field, I see the same spirit and commitment that characterized my time in Cleveland. The heritage of greatness and community support lives on, and I am proud to be a part of it.
Thank you, Cleveland, for your love, memories, and unbreakable friendship. Here’s to many more years of shared prosperity and cherishable memories.
With deepest thanks,
Kenny Lofton
